Westchase Congratulates Cristen Thomas – Tampa Catholic Class of 2016 Salutatorian

At Tampa Catholic’s graduation ceremony, held in the Carol Morsani Auditorium of the David A. Straz Performing Arts Center on Tuesday, May 24, Ms. Cristen Thomas gave the Salutatory Address for the Class of 2016. Ms. Thomas is the first African- American Salutatorian in Tampa Catholic’s 54-year history. 
 
Additional honors and awards that Ms. Thomas received include: President’s Education Award for Excellence, Florida Bright Futures Academic Scholar Award, Tampa Tribune Honor Student, National Beta Club, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, and the Hispanic Honor Society. 
 
A well-rounded student, Ms. Thomas also was a 3-year member of the Tampa Catholic Crusaderettes Dance Team, a Tampa Catholic High School Ambassador, a member of Campus Ministries, and the Shape Senior-Freshmen Mentor Program. Ms. Thomas is also a member of the Elsa Pardo Dance Studio Bravo Competition Team, having been dancing since the age of 4. She is a member of the Precious Pearls, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Gamma Theta Omega Chapter’s Youth Group and attends Bible-Based Fellowship Church, where she volunteers with the Nursery Ministry. 
 
Ms. Thomas is the daughter of Caroline and Alphonse Stewart and Rodney Thomas. Rodney Thomas is also an alumnus of Tampa Catholic, Class of 1984.
